You should be able to feel your Dachshund's ribs easily and see a defined waist from above. Measure meals and go easy on treats. 2. Use ramps, not jumps Jumping off sofas and beds is one of the biggest risks. Pet ramps are inexpensive and most Dachshunds learn to use them in a day or two. 3. Lift correctly Always support both the chest and the hind end so the spine stays horizontal. Never lift a Dachshund by the front legs or under the armpits alone. 4.
